Hill Drive Residence

In the summer of 2021, Michael reached out to me. He and his wife had purchased a property on a steep hillside in Eagle Rock. Expecting their second child, they were eager to make a garden that captured his South African roots as well as their appreciation for wild native plantings.

Working with Isaac Reskinoff, from Project Room design firm in LA, we discussed use, flow and design aspects. First order of business for me, was to create a wider and safer entrance garden. We broadened the footprint with a board formed wall for safety. For erosion control, we made a cradling formation of large boulders which were carefully lowered by pulley and rope system and secured into the steep hillside. I chose a palette of riparian and erosion controlling native species.

Phase two included a swimming pool and DG multipurpose driveway, serving as a play area for the kids as well as entertaining for larger parties. Birds have been nesting in the trees and the gardens are buzzing with laughter and life.
